Demonstrative

これ is used when you talk about something close to you. それ is used when you talk about something a bit far away from you. あれ is used when you talk about something really far away from you.

  • これ – this
  • それ – that
  • あれ – that over there

Demonstrative + noun

この人 is correct if you want to say ‘this person’. You can’t say これ人 even though これ is ‘this’.

  • この人 – this person
  • その人 – that person
  • あの人 – that person over there
