Answer

Both words mean ‘I’.

わたし is used by girls, ladies and men. ぼく is used by boys only.

So, boys, do not use ぼく anymore once you become an adult. You can decide when you start to use わたし. If you think you are mature enough, you should start to say わたし to describe yourself.

Example

わたしの なまえ は サムです。

ぼくの なまえ は サムです。

The two sentences above mean ‘My name is Sam’. However, Sam in the first one can be a girl, lady or man, whereas, Sam in the second one must be a boy.
