There are two words to say ‘also’ in Japanese correctly.

Use また if you want to say ‘Also’ at the start of an English sentence.

If an English sentence can be translated into two Japanese sentences, you need to think about which noun you need ‘also’ for.

With the sentence above,

you would like to say ‘(Not only my mother but also) I speak Japanese.’

then, 私日本語を話します。is correct in Japanese.

Whereas, if you would like to say ‘I speak (not only English but also) Japanese.’

then, 私は日本語話します。is correct in Japanese.
