つ numbers

You can use the numbers below to count most objects.

  • 一つ(ひとつ/hi to tsu):one
  • 二つ(ふたつ/fu ta tsu):two
  • 三つ(みっつ/mi t tsu):three
  • 四つ(よっつ/yo t tsu):four
  • 五つ(いつつ/i tsu tsu):five
  • 六つ(むっつ/mu t tsu):six
  • 七つ(ななつ/na na tsu):seven
  • 八つ(やっつ/ya t tsu):eight
  • 九つ(ここのつ/ko ko no tsu):nine
  • 十(とお/to o):ten

When you count, put whatever you count first, then the counter.

Example
  • three ramens:ラーメン三つ (ra a me n mi t tsu)
  • six chairs:いす六つ (i su mu t tsu)
  • nine stones:いし九つ (i shi ko ko no tsu)
