- たん生日(たん・じょう・び) → birthday
- は → no meaning
- いつ → when
- です → is
- か → ?
Note 1: No ‘your’
There is no word for ‘your’ in the Japanese sentence above. This often happens. Put あたなの which is ‘your’ if you want to make it clear to ask ‘your’ birthday.
Japanese people usually do not put あなたの if it is clear enough to ask ‘your’ birthday in the situation.
Note 2:
Put the person’s name plus の in front of たん生日 if you want to ask somebody’s birthday.
