Many words have been adopted from overseas into Japanese. Here is the list of some examples. They should be written in Kakatana.

Basic

They are easy to guess what it means if you can read the Katakana words properly.

  • Hannah: ハナ
  • orange: オレンジ
  • chocolate: チョコレート

Advanced

They are sometimes a bit difficult to guess what it means even if you can read the Katakana words properly.

  • Switzerland: スイス
  • Theme: テーマ
  • McDonald’s: マクドナルド
  • Copy and paste: コピペ
  • Smart phone: スマホ

  • Germany: ドイツ
    The origin of ドイツ is German.
  • Part time job: アルバイト
    The origin of アルバイト is German.
  • Bread: パン
    The origin of パン is Portugal.
