愛子さまは2001年12月１日に生まれました。
生まれたとき、たくさんの人が愛子さまの誕生を祝いました。

愛子さまには「敬宮」という別の名前もあります。
愛子さまは「敬宮さま」とよばれたり、
二つの名前をあわせて「敬宮愛子さま」とよばれたりすることもあります。
愛子さんのお父さんとお母さん、つまり天皇と皇后が
「人を敬う、人から敬われる、人を愛する、人から愛される、そのように育ってほしい」
という願いをこめて、この名前をつけました。
愛子さまは動物が大好きです。

Aiko has another name, Toshinomiya. She is called Toshinomiya. She is sometimes called Toshinomoya Aiko by putting the two names together. Toshinomiya is her special name. Her father and mother, the emperor and empress, gave the name to her, wishing she grows as she respects and loves people and is respected and loved by people.
(Note: Kanji 敬 means ‘respect’ and 愛 means ‘love’.)
She loves animals.
Aiko-sama
Japanese citizens call her Aiko-sama. They don’t call her Aiko-san. ‘Sama’ is used to express more respect than ‘san’.
Kichou

Goshougou
It is a special name for members of the Imperial Family. Japanese citizens do not have it.
