What Godan means

Why are they called Godan Verb?

よむ is Godan Verb. Let’s see some endings of the verb conjugation.

  • なければなりません:have to read
  • たいです:want to read
  • ことがすきです:like to read
  • たら:if (you) read
  • :let’s read

You can see five different characters which are ま, み, む, め, も in front of the endings in bold.

Go is five in Japanese.

Godan verbs change characters in front of conjugation endings.
