On this page, you can learn what Verb たForm is and how it is used in a sentence.


たForm is used with various grammar patterns. It is also called Plain Past Positive Form, which you can use to describe what happened in the past.

How to change Dictionary Form into たForm

Irregular verb

  • する → した
  • くる → きた

Group 2 (Weak Verb)

Change る at the end of the verb to た

(Ex) たべ → たべ

Group 1 (Strong Verb)

Change the last symbol of the verb following the rule below.

う、つ、る → った
ぬ、ぶ、む → んだ
く → いた
ぐ → いだ
す → した


read: よ → よんだ

swim: およ → およいだ

meet: あ → あった

Note: いく

いく, which belongs to Group 1 (Strong Verb), does not follow the rule above. てform of いく is always いった.
